LIRA, UGANDA – The Lango sub-region and Uganda at large are in mourning following the announcement of the passing of His Highness Won Nyaci Yosam Odur Ebii, the Paramount Chief of the Lango Cultural Foundation. The revered leader died this morning at the age of 99.
Odur Ebii passed on at 4:20am from lira university teaching hospital where he has been hospitalized acceding to his premier Fredrick Ogeal Oyee. The specific cause of death has not been immediately disclosed. He gas been at the helm of Lango cultural foundation since 2003
Yosam Odur Ebii was a towering figure, not just in Lango but across the nation, having served as the embodiment of Lango culture and tradition for years. His reign as Won Nyaci was marked by a steadfast dedication to fostering unity, preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Lango people, and advocating for the development of the sub-region.
At 99 years old, he was one of the eldest and most respected traditional leaders in Uganda, a living library of history and wisdom whose guidance was sought by both his subjects and national leaders.
The nation now turns its thoughts to the Lango Cultural Foundation and the family of the late Chief as they navigate this profound loss. Tributes from political, cultural, and community leaders are expected to pour in throughout the day and in the coming weeks.
