The International Criminal Court is making global headlines for kons hearings

today as it begins an in‑absentia hearing against one of the world’s most wanted fugitives—Joseph Kony.

‎Today, Tuesday 9th September, the ICC opens the first-ever confirmation of charges hearing in the absence of the accused.

‎Joseph Kony, the leader of the brutal Lord’s Resistance Army, remains at large—but justice presses on.

‎Held in The Hague, the hearing will allow ICC prosecutors to present evidence of war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed during Kony’s reign of terror in northern Uganda.

‎Although this is not a trial, judges will decide whether there’s enough evidence to move forward.

In June, the ICC’s Appeals Chamber approved the use of in-absentia proceedings when a suspect cannot be located.

‎With legal counsel appointed for Kony, the process could pave the way for a full trial—if and when he is ever captured.
