Teaching paralyzed in government aided schools across Apac
Schools across Apac District remain closed this week as the nationwide teachers' strike enters its second week, leaving thousands of learners stranded.

The strike, led by arts subject teachers, is in protest over what they describe as unfair salary disparities between them and their science-teaching colleagues.
The government recently awarded science teachers a 300% salary increase, a move that has triggered unrest among other teaching professionals who feel left behind.
A survey conducted by our news desk revealed that Alerwang Primary School is among the most affected. Our team found the school completely deserted of teaching staff, with 80 pupils who had turned up for lessons sent back home due to the absence of teachers.
Meanwhile, instead of being in classrooms, several teachers were spotted tending to their gardens, signaling their continued resolve to stay away from school duties until their demands are met.
In, Apac primary within town center, the school deputy headteacher Mr Aliraki Ronald says teaching is going on and one of the candidate confirmed that they are being taught.
Teachers and pupils have almost reported all
Speaking on behalf of the striking educators, Filbert Baguma, Chairperson of the Uganda National Teachers’ Union, said the strike will continue indefinitely until the government addresses their grievances.
> “We are simply demanding equal treatment,” said Baguma. “Science teachers have been given a significant raise, while arts teachers—who equally contribute to the education system—have been ignored. This is not acceptable.”
Parents and education stakeholders have expressed growing concern over the long-term impact of the industrial action, especially as schools were just beginning to recover from earlier disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As the standoff continues, calls are mounting for the Ministry of Education and Public Service to urgently engage with union representatives to find a lasting solution.
