Dokolo, Uganda|Dokolo will use 17,000 Actellic Insecticide Bottles as IRS Targets Six Sub Counties to Curb Malaria.
The officials from the Health department in Dokolo district have declared a new phase of Indoor Residual Spraying that will target 6 subscribe counties in Dokolo distinct with high malaria cases.
Addressing media Tom Opio, the district malaria focal point person for Dokolo said the campaign will operate for 20 days in the sub counties of Dokolo, Adeknino, Amwoma,Kangai,Okwongodul and Adok.
He explained that the exercise is expected to protect households from malaria and the proper used of mosquitoes net that will help in reducing malaria.
The Assistant District Health Officer (ADHO) Dr Eugine Odongo,appealed to residents to welcome the initiative and give all the support they needed.
According to Odongo in 2024, the district achieved only 86% coverage, falling short of the target.
Both Dokolo and Kangai subcounties recorded the highest resistance to the programme, which limited its impact.
Health officials say they are optimistic that this year’s campaign, if well received, will surpass previous performance and contribute to lowering malaria prevalence across districts.
Indoor residual spraying (IRS) is an effective intervention for reducing mosquito vector density and malaria transmission.
