Parliament,Uganda|Six legislators under upc have written a letter that condemned the decision made by the electoral commission that nullified Jimmy Akena Obote to be nominated for presidency.
In a press statement written and released on 23th September,2025 the legislator said they can’t just sit and listen to the EC yet they also know the constitution of the country and how it works.
Among the legislators who sign the letter is Hon Odur Jonathna of Erute South,Betty Amongi Akena of Oyam South,Dr Eunice Apio Otuku of Oyam North,Nelson Lemba Okello of Maruzi,Vincent Obong Eyit of Lira City West Division,Sarah Aguti of Dokolo district and Kenny Auma of kwania district they all condemned this act by EC.
The letter said EC is not doing their work as an independent electoral commision this is because they don’t have any right to nullify Jimmy Akena to be nominated since he submitted all that is needed for his candidature.
The legislators have assured the citizens to be calm since they are working on all avenues that make Akena to be there on the ballot paper in the general election 2026.
“As the upc parliamentary committee we remain united and committed to the struggle for democracy, fairness and the will of the Uganda peoples we shall not detrend”.
Jimmy James Michael Akena  has also rejected the decision from EC to nullify him from being nominated.
Akean in a letter written to the EC said they can’t just come out of the blue and stop his candidature after verifying all his signature that he collected across the country.
Akebna said if he was wrong the EC would have stopped him from day one instead of making him move the whole country looking for signatures.
He therefore argued the people of Uganda to be calm since the party is struggling with other legal processes for his candidature.
The electoral commission as appointed Tuesday 23rd and wednesday 24th 2025 as the dates for nomination of candidates for Presidential Elections, 2026.
The nomination exercise will be conducted at the Electoral Commission Head Office Grounds, Plot 2508, Lubowa, Kigo-Lweza Road, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District, starting at 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on both days.
