Police in the North Kyoga region have warned against planned riots reportedly being organized by a section of Uganda People’s Congress.

Lira City,Uganda|Police in the North Kyoga region have warned against planned riots reportedly being organized by a section of Uganda People’s Congress.
The report that was issued by police mouthpiece says the UPC supporters and some leaders are palinmg for this riot following reports that party President Jimmy Michael James Akena will not appear on the ballot for the upcoming presidential race.
Addressing media at Regional police headquarters in Erute Jimmy Patrick Okema told reporters that the Intelligence reports indicate planned riots on the 29th September 2025 by some identified supporters of the UPC party starting in Lira City that will later spread to other districts within lango.
According to Okema the upc supporters and leaders in lango want to riot on EC demanding that Akena should also be in the ballot paper for presidential race.
The report from the police is that the riotist shall gather at the home of the party president Jimmy Jameas Michel Akena Obote which is located in Senior Quarters in Lira City.
“As police and other security organs, we have not got any formal notifications to the office of the Inspector General of Police nor a reply to that effect; it’s therefore a very illegal intention”
Okema assured the people of lango that they are in peace so anyone who wants to disrupt the peace will be dealt with as the law may require.
“We therefore appeal to all law-abiding citizens to be cautious by respecting the rule of law and reporting to the nearest police station any person with such intentions for arrest and prosecution before a court of law after a thorough investigation is conducted”
Okema assured the people of Lango that all DPCs and RDCs are aware and they will be guided to act accordingly.
