Digi Farmer, Maarifasasa Partner to Train 2,000 Youth and Digitize One Million
Farmers in Uganda.

A new partnership between Digi Farmer, powered by Agrosahas International, and
Maarifasasa has been sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU) aimed at transforming agriculture through digital innovation and youth
empowerment in Uganda.

Speaking during the signing ceremony held in Lira, officials from both institutions
highlighted the partnership as a major step toward bridging the gap between
agriculture and technology while creating employment opportunities for young
people.

The MOU sets an ambitious target to train up to 2,000 youth as Digital Field Agents
over the next two to three years. These trained youth will play a crucial role in
digitizing one million farmers across Uganda, starting from Lango and the broader
northern region.

“This partnership is key because it speaks directly to our mission of empowering
young people for the digital economy and unlocking one million employment
opportunities for Africa’s youth beginning right here in northern Uganda,” said
Maarifasasa CEO, Robert Bob Okello during the event.
The trained digital agents will onboard farmers onto the Digi Farmer platform,
helping them access data-driven agricultural solutions such as soil testing, crop
suitability recommendations, weather updates, financial services, and market
insights.

Priyanka Sarocle, representing Agrosahas International, said the collaboration
leverages the company’s technological infrastructure and Maarifasasa’s youth-
focused training expertise to build a scalable and sustainable digital agriculture
model.

“At Digi Farmer, we believe technology can be a bridge of inclusion. By partnering
with Marifa Sasa, we are investing in young people as catalysts for digital
agriculture equipping them to connect farmers, improve productivity, and
strengthen data-driven decision-making,” she said.

The platform also integrates advanced satellite soil testing technology, enabling
farmers to identify the best crops for their land based on nutrient data.
Furthermore, through the system’s built-in digital wallet, farmers can receive
payments instantly and access financial services like loans for agro-inputs.
For young people joining the initiative, the benefits go beyond training. Each digital
agent will earn income for every farmer successfully registered on the platform and
additional rewards when those farmers access loans or other services through Digi
Farmer.

According to the organizers, training sessions will begin in early November, starting
in Lira before expanding across the country. Applications for interested youth are
already open.

The project also includes provisions for inclusivity: agents will be provided with
tablets to assist farmers who may lack smartphones or internet access. Each farmer
will be onboarded through a QR code system, ensuring even rural communities
without digital literacy benefit from the platform.

Currently, Digi Farmer is already working with over 30,000 farmers in northern
Uganda and plans to scale up to 2,000 active field agents within the next two years.
“This partnership is not just about technology it’s about creating value at every
stage,” Maarifasasa CEO, Robert Bob Okello emphasized. “It’s about jobs for youth,
financial inclusion for farmers, and data-driven decisions for a stronger agricultural
economy.”

As Uganda continues to embrace digital transformation in agriculture, the
collaboration between Digi Farmer and Maarifasasa marks a milestone in building a
smarter, more connected, and inclusive agricultural future.
