  • 680 pupils faild mock exams in apac municipalityOut of a total of 703 pupils who sat for the exams, only 23 managed to score Division One — a clear indication of decline academic standards. The results were officially released yesterday during a ceremony held at Scout Hall in Apac.

According to the report presented by Mr. Quinto Oyo, Chairperson of the Apac Municipal Examination Board, boys outperformed girls across all subjects. English and Science were identified as the worst-performing subjects, sparking concern among education stakeholders.

Despite the overall poor results, Apac Model Primary School emerged as a beacon of hope, producing 10 out of the 23 candidates in Division One. Remarkably, all the top ten performing pupils in the municipality were from Apac Model. Out of their 60 candidates, 18 achieved Division One.
In stark contrast, Atopi Primary School was ranked the lowest in terms of performance, with no candidates making it to Division One.

The situation was also dire in Atik Division, which comprises five schools — none of which registered a single Division One candidate. However, some glimmers of hope were seen in Akere with 4, Agulu with 18, and Arocha Division with just 1 pupil in Division One.

Senior Municipal Inspector of Schools, Ms. Akello Molly Grace, expressed deep concern over the results.

She emphasized the need for urgent intervention, recommending focused efforts on the subjects of English and Science.

She also called for prioritization of the girl-child’s education, early completion of the syllabus, and greater involvement of parents and community stakeholders to uplift academic performance.

Apac Model, Headteacher Mr. George Opio credited the impressive results to coordinated efforts among teachers, parents, and learners. He urged other schools to adopt a similar collaborative approach.

Meanwhile, the Town Clerk of Apac Municipal Council has advised teachers across the municipality to use the remaining time before the final exams to address learning gaps.
