

Otuke,Uganda|The rate of floods in Otuke district is reducing and most victims who had taken refuge in schools are now vacating.
Speaking to our reporter in an interview, the LC5 chairperson Otuke district, Francis Abola said the district received heavy rainfall last month causing floods in some areas but currently rain has reduced.
Abola said floods forced over 500 locals in the subcounties of Orum, Ogwete and Olilim to seek refuge in schools like; Oboko, Anepmoroto and Aler Community Schools among others.
He said with the reduction of rainfall recently, most of the victims have moved out of the schools to rent in low land areas while some are living with relatives in such areas.
Abola said he is optimistic that by 15/09/2025 as learners resume school, the few victims still ocupying the schools will have vacated to give space for schools to operate efficiently.
In Alebtong district, the LC5 chairperson, David Kennedy Odongo said the challenge they have with education is the fact that over 5 schools have been submerged by floods.
Odongo cited schools like Angicakide P/S ,Agem P/S , Ajobi P/S and Alepelepe P/S expressing fear that education in those schools may be interfered as third term begins.
He therefore said the district health and education department are working on an emergency plan to find a solution to the problem if it persists.
On the state of roads, Odongo said the district have started working on some roads in less floody areas and government has also started working on some national roads like Ngetta-Apala-Alebtong road.
Meanwhile in Dokolo district LC5, 1532 households and 36 villages in subcounties like Kwera, Adeknino , Okwongodul kede Agwata have been affected by floods.
According to infomation our reporter got from different districts affected by floods in Lango, government has not yet given relief aid to the victims.
