KAMPALA, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has delivered a strong message to leaders across the country, declaring that those who fail to perform their duties effectively should leave positions of leadership.
In a statement shared through his official communication channels, President Museveni said he had exercised patience for a long time but stressed that poor performance in leadership can no longer be tolerated.
“I have been polite enough. I don't ‘kuwemula’ people. All non-performers must leave leadership. Leadership is not about ego but about the people and the country,” the President stated.
The remarks underscore the President's growing concern over the effectiveness of leaders entrusted with public responsibilities and service delivery. Museveni emphasized that leadership should focus on improving the welfare of citizens rather than advancing personal interests or maintaining positions for prestige.
Political analysts say the statement signals a renewed push for accountability within government structures and public institutions, especially as the country continues to pursue socio-economic transformation and service delivery goals.
The President has in recent weeks repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with leaders whom he accuses of failing to utilize government programs and resources to improve the livelihoods of Ugandans. He has warned that officials who neglect their responsibilities risk being removed from office.
Museveni's latest comments are expected to spark debate within political and administrative circles, with many observers viewing the message as a call for greater efficiency, accountability, and results-oriented leadership.
The President reiterated that leadership should always prioritize the interests of the people and the nation above personal ambition, insisting that public office is a responsibility rather than a privilege.
