Godfrey Akodo, the chairperson of UNATU APAC, has condemned government officials for intimidating teachers participating in an ongoing strike in Uganda.
Akodo asserts that the unatu rights and Ugandan constitution protects teachers’ right to strike.
Sub-county chiefs and some head teachers are accused of threatening teachers who are participating in the strike.
The strike, led by UNATU, aims to address grievances and improve working conditions for teachers.
Akodo said the Ugandans teachers are still ready and ready to continue striking untill the government of Uganda adress the issue of their salary enhancement .
This situation mirrors similar incidents in other countries, such as Ghana, where the Colleges of Education Teachers Association (CETAG) recently went on strike due to unresolved grievances.
