Lira city,Uganda|The territorial police in Lira-City central Division have registered DEF 12/2025 to investigate the circumstances under which a 5 year’s old child drowned in a swimming pool on the 13th Sept 2025.
Addressing journalist, Jimmy Patrick Okema police PRO said It’s alleged that on the 13th Sept 2025 at around1600 hours, the reporter Edok peace went with a group of children including the deceased to Happy Haven children’s park-Adyel,Lira-City West for leisure.
It was reported that the deceased left his friends and proceeded to the swimming pool, entered an area where the water was deep and he eventually drowned, effort to rescue him was little.
Police was informed and DEF was opened to investigate, scene was visited by a team led by the OC CID Lira-City Central Division, homicide squad and soco, it was documented and some statements recorded from witnesses.
Body of the deceased was conveyed to Lira RRH where a postmortem was conducted.
The deceased went into an area measuring about 3.3ft above the water level and he eventually drowned.
The pool attendant did not guide the child; hence he was arrested to support the investigation.
