Four Alebtong Schools Qualify for Uganda National Scouts Competition Following Three-Day Training Camp

ALEBTONG, Uganda — Four educational institutions from Alebtong District have secured spots to represent the district at the upcoming Uganda National Scouts Competition following an intensive, three-day scouting training camp hosted at Aloi Grounds.

The qualifying contingent includes three primary institutions—Fatima Aloi Primary School, Obim Primary School, and Apala Primary School—alongside Aloi Secondary School, which stands as the sole secondary institution among the district finalists.

High Participation Despite Resource Constraints

Addressing attendees during the official closing ceremony on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Camp Commander Bonny Alot highlighted the event's strong turnout and practical focus. The workshop drew a total of 154 young scouts drawn from eight schools across the district, comprising seven primary schools and one secondary school.

"The camp brought together 154 scouts from eight schools, giving them practical leadership and scouting skills ahead of the national competition," Commander Alot stated.

Despite the successful execution of the camp, scouting leaders used the platform to highlight critical operational bottlenecks facing youth development programmes in the region.

District Scout Commissioner Joseph Alip noted that persistent funding shortfalls continue to restrict the scope and frequency of scouting activities throughout Alebtong. He issued a formal appeal to local district leadership to prioritize funding allocations for scouting programmes and to facilitate the establishment of a dedicated, permanent district training facility.

"With adequate funding and a dedicated training ground, more schools will be able to participate consistently in scouting activities," Commissioner Alip emphasized, underlining that permanent infrastructure would ensure regular skills development year-round.

Civic Leadership and Environmental Mandate

Alebtong Acting District Education Officer (DEO), Moses Agel, congratulated the participants while urging them to integrate the lessons learned into their daily lives and local communities.

Agel challenged the young scouts to extend their role beyond ceremonial duties by taking active leadership in environmental governance, specifically championing tree-planting initiatives to combat regional climate change.

In his closing address, Agel emphasized character development, urging the learners to:

• Demonstrate consistent discipline both within academic institutions and broader society.

• Uphold core moral values rooted in community responsibility.

• Prioritize spiritual integrity, encouraging participants to place faith at the center of their personal growth and endeavors.

Next Stop: Entebbe

With regional qualifiers concluded, the four delegation teams from Fatima Aloi Primary, Obim Primary, Apala Primary, and Aloi Secondary School have shifted focus to final preparations. They will travel to Entebbe to represent Alebtong District, competing against qualifying schools from across Uganda in fieldcraft, drill precision, survival skills, and community leadership tests.
