KAMPALA, Uganda — The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has announced that 80 ministerial nominees have successfully completed the vetting process and have been forwarded back to the appointing authority for formal approval.

Speaking on behalf of the Appointments Committee spokesperson, Jacob Marksons Oboth, Tayebwa revealed that the committee has concluded the scrutiny of the majority of President Yoweri Museveni's ministerial appointees, marking a significant step in the formation of the new government.

According to Tayebwa, only two ministerial nominees are yet to appear before the Committee on Appointments for vetting. The two have not presented themselves either physically at Parliament or virtually through the Zoom platform, delaying the completion of the exercise.

The Committee on Appointments, chaired by Speaker Oboth and deputized by Tayebwa, began vetting 81 ministerial nominees earlier this week following their appointment by President Museveni. The vetting process is a constitutional requirement aimed at assessing the suitability, qualifications, and integrity of nominees before they officially assume office.

Parliament has described the exercise as largely successful, with nominees outlining their priorities and commitment to delivering on government programs once confirmed. The clearance of 80 nominees represents substantial progress toward the establishment of the executive arm of government under the new parliamentary term.

The Appointments Committee is expected to conclude its work once the remaining two nominees appear for vetting. Following their assessment, a final report will be submitted, paving the way for the formal approval and swearing-in of the new ministers.

More details regarding the identities of the two outstanding nominees and the timeline for their appearance are expected to be communicated by Parliament in the coming days.
