President Yoweri Museveni was in the Pakwach District today, October 7, 2025, where he presided over a significant development tour focused on infrastructure and economic pledges for the West Nile region.
The centerpiece of his visit was the official commissioning of the upgraded Pakwach Junction Road. During a rally attended by local leaders, NRM supporters, and residents, the President highlighted the project as a critical link for trade and connectivity.
“This road is not just tarmac; it is a gateway for your produce to reach markets in DR Congo and South Sudan. It is part of our broader strategy to end the isolation of West Nile and integrate it into the national economy,” President Museveni stated.
The President emphasized that the newly commissioned road, along with other ongoing projects like the Atiak-Laropi road, will drastically reduce travel time and vehicle operating costs, boosting commerce and agriculture in the region.
A substantial part of his speech was dedicated to the Parish Development Model (PDM). He urged locals to move away from subsistence farming and embrace commercial agriculture. He specifically pointed to the potential in sectors like fruit growing (mangoes and oranges), aquaculture in the Nile, and livestock keeping.
President Museveni commended the people of West Nile for maintaining peace and security, which he described as a prerequisite for development. He reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring this stability continues.
The visit also carried strong political undertones, with the President rallying support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. He framed the infrastructure developments as a direct result of the NRM government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to the people of West Nile.
Local leaders who spoke at the event expressed gratitude for the development but also echoed the community’s expectations for more, including better health services, improved electricity access, and support for value addition for their agricultural products.
The President’s visit to Pakwach is seen by political analysts as a strategic move to consolidate support in a region that is crucial for the NRM. By commissioning a tangible project and linking it directly to economic empowerment, the government aims to demonstrate its delivery on campaign pledges and shore up its political base ahead of future electoral cycles.
