Uganda Peoples Congress Party President has assured the government that failure to meet the teachers needs will affect learners’ future not teachers.
Jimmy James Michel Akena Obote came with this statement on Tuesday while addressing the media in kampala.
Akena said the more the government delayed to increacred teachers’ salaries the more learners will suffer because the teachers have knowledge but pupils they don’t have.
Meanwhile has the nationwide strike declared by the Uganda National Teachers’ Union has disrupted the reopening of schools in Lango
The strike commence on 15 September 2025, is part of UNATU’s demand for salary increment for categories of teachers excluded from previous government pay rises.

District Education Officer David Adea said initial assessments showed that many teachers had reported to their duty stations, but attendance among learners was still low.
Education officials warn that if the government and UNATU fail to resolve the standoff quickly, the disruption could deepen learning gaps and compromise students’ academic progress.
