The Lango Cultural Foundation, led by Agong Margaret Odongo Okune, has partnered with the Ugandan government to launch an initiative aimed at empowering young girls in the Lango region.
The program will provide skills training to 500 girls to help them fight against abuse and protect their rights.
This developement came at an enguagement meeting between the lango cultural foundation carbinet last friday in senior quarters lira city at the wonnyacis home
The agong foundation is intending to empower young girls with knowledge, skills, and confidence to take control of their lives.
And also provide education and skills training to girls, enabling them to pursue their goals and aspirations ,and as well protect girls from abuse, exploitation, and violence, and provide them with support and resources to thrive.
Minister for communication in the office of lango cultural foundation Patrick Okullo Okeng has stated that the cabinet has approved the partnership between the Lango government and the Agong Foundation to implement a program aimed at empowering young girls in the region.
Patrick Okwir, spokesperson for Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, the Paramount Chief of Lango, expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for accepting to lead and support the Lango sub-region’s development.
Eng. Dr. Okune was sworn in as the Paramount Chief on February 5, 2025, at Lira High Court, marking a significant milestone for the Lango Cultural Institution and the community.
The ceremony was attended by clan heads, cultural leaders, legal dignitaries, and community members from across the Lango sub-region
Eng. Dr. Okune’s leadership is seen as a new chapter in the Lango story, one that promises to reclaim their cultural roots and forge a brighter future.
