Lira District Lawmaker Engola Pledges Infrastructure Push After 112km Road Inspection
Minister Sam Engola has completed an inspection of 112 kilometres of rehabilitated roads in Erute South, Lira District, urging community oversight of government projects. During the tour, he secured a commitment from the Health Minister to fund a new OPD and upgrade Onywako Health Centre II to III, as district leaders call for additional road equipment to sustain infrastructure gains.

The inspection, conducted on Monday, July 27, 2026, covered road projects implemented jointly by Engola's office and the Lira District Local Government. Among the roads inspected were the Amach-Abongomola (10.2km), Amunamun-Alik Health Centre III (3.8km), Kekere-Abutadii (4.2km), Awiodyek-Alworo (8.5km), Amach Town Council-Adip (8.9km), and Agali Seed-Ocamonyang (8.8km) routes.
Engola, who toured the projects alongside district technical staff, urged local leaders and residents to exercise proper oversight of government initiatives. He emphasized that quality roads, schools, health facilities, and clean water services are fundamental to improving livelihoods across the constituency.
“Beyond serving as Erute South MP, my appointment as minister gives me an opportunity to closely monitor road infrastructure development across Lango and ensure government services reach local communities in time,” Engola said.
The minister also visited Onywako Health Centre II, where he found no development underway. During the inspection, he called Minister for Health Dr. Christ Baryomusi, who pledged to secure funding for the construction of a new Outpatient Department and the facility's upgrading from Health Centre II to Health Centre III.
Lira District LC5 Chairperson RCM Okello Orik welcomed the visit, stating that the district anticipates significant road improvements once implementation of the 2026/2027 district road budget commences. He appealed to Engola to continue lobbying for an additional grader, noting that inadequate grading equipment remains one of the district's biggest challenges.
Lira District Acting Engineer Geoffrey Ongala reported that the district had earlier inspected roads in Erute North, where 102 kilometers have been maintained, while 113 kilometers have been worked on in Erute South.
Resident District Commissioner Lilian Eyal commended Engola for working closely with district leaders regardless of political differences, saying the collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to improving public service delivery. She encouraged residents to make productive use of the improved roads by increasing agricultural production and commercial activities to raise household incomes and boost local economic development.
