Otuke,Ugabda|Authorities of Otuke district have started requesting relief aid from well wishers to support families affected by floods after the government delayed to help them.
Speaking to our reporter on Tuesday yesterday, the LC5 chairperson of Otuke district, Francis Abola said over 20,000 households were affected by floods in the sub counties of Orum, Ogwete and Olilim.
Abola said he sent the list of victims to the office of the prime minister 2 weeks ago for relief aid but have not received any positive feedback till now.
He said this has prompted him to start calling on well wishers and non governmental organizations to support the victims with relief aid.
Abola expressed gratitude with Victory Outreach Ministries in Lira for supporting some affected households with maize and beans yesterday.
He said 120 households were each given 25 kgs of maize floor and 10 kgs of beans especially in Orum subcounty.
He added that this will help address anger issues because some families didn’t have what to eat.
Rev Johnson Ogema who heads Victory Outreach Ministries said he liaised with some of his friends to provide the items which were distributed to the victims.
He warned beneficiaries against selling them because it’s intended to address anger issues.
Some locals who received the relief aid expressed gratitude towards the initiative and called on other organizations to emulate it in order to help them address anger because most crops were destroyed by floods.
